STAFF

Matt M. Van Auken, P.E., C.P.S.
Principal Engineer

Matt graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering (98€™) from the University of Kansas and immediately went to work for Black & Veatch, one of the largest and most diversified engineering companies in the world. His responsibilities there included designing large electrical substations and transmission lines as well as communication towers and other electrical design projects.

Corrosion affects many of the foundation elements that these structures utilize so it became Mr. Van Auken's duty to determine the affects corrosion may have on the structural integrity of each tower, anchor, pier, etc.

After obtaining a Professional Engineering license and NACE Specialist certification, he began working for Anode Systems Company and quickly climbed to the position of Vice President. His responsibilities included managing projects of varying budget and complexity from start to finish, including client acquisition, site survey, engineering design, installation, compliance issues and final testing and certification. As an engineer, he was responsible for designing cathodic protection systems to protect underground storage tanks, foundation elements and pipelines located in a variety of environments.

Anode Systems Company provided a terrific opportunity to develop the skills and experience needed to be successful. He soon realized the demand for quality corrosion engineering companies that offer turnkey services and QualCorr Engineering Corporation was born.

Mr. Van Auken has designed and installed cathodic protection systems to protect all types of metallic pipelines of varying size and materials, elevated water storage tanks, underground storage tanks, foundation elements, dams and many other buried or submerged metallic structures located in some unique environments around the world. As the Chairman of the NACE Rocky Mountain Section and member of several other organizations within the industry he has given technical presentations to the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, Colorado Division of Oil, Eaton Metal, the Propane Industry and many other regulatory committees and organizations. He has served on state regulatory committees developing new mandates for the oil and gas industry and completed corrosion protection studies and designs for everything from galvanized window wells to nuclear power plants. He has completed interference surveys within large gas and power plants, along pipelines and light rail lines. He has completed engineering consulting services regarding corrosion compliance issues for companies regulated by the EPA and other regulatory agencies. He has completed various ASTM controlled testing services and DOT close-interval surveys. QualCorr Engineering prides itself on having highly qualified engineers and technicians who get out in the field gaining invaluable experience while practicing their expertise.
